Chris & Dave's vegetarian climb @ Kingoussie

'Albatros' MS , the route has been neglected for some time, and as we climbed we could see why, sketchy rock, little gear at the top section and generaly a b*stard of a climb through trees, heather and allsorts.

KINGOUSSIE CRAG

The wide views from Kingoussie crag make for a great backdrop for a climb, its a great location for some mid range climbs - good base camp area etc...

'Left hand crack' E1 5b, photo show the route for leading.

profile of the main wall at Kingoussie.

nice start with a well defined crack to follow, with good solid holds and small ledges for feet.

getting to the crux move with 'ladder leg' graham is about to top out on his mission for the day.

winter prep...

the wall will now be stripped of all holds and treated for the winter season - damp is a massive problem with a construction like this, but use it regular and restrict opportunities for damp (no carpets or luxury furnishings!).
climbfest continues...

waingroove wooden holds...route of power.

i recently turned 32 and for my birthday i was given a set of holds spelling out my business name 'waingroove'. these were made by rab anderson (junes dad), who has carved them out of old oak - good long lasting, tight grained wood.
they are taking a bit of bedding in, but they are a joy to hold after the abrasive feel of the resin holds - you have to be aware that after a few goes they get a bit sweaty, but good holds - the route is a belter, but no pictures until i've crushed it!

the raw product.

nice wrapping - "guns don't kill people, wrapping does!"

any bespoke requests for hand carved climbing holds - just give me a shout.

Roof sections take their places...

As the wall has been getting more and more additions i have had little time to show you all the results, so as you would expect....here they are.

this roof section is fully supporting and around 12' off the ground.

this gives the option to go from the angled wall to the Arete with the roof section for added energy and distance.

over hanging adjustable wall...

looking up the over hanging section (8'x4')...

the overhang is mounted on hinges at it's base, and the angle is increased or decreased by the chains at the back (eyelets bolted through the wall, with mayons for attaching it all together), the wall can lower to about 45%...not to good for rest days...
